Online Video Production - Ranking Challenge

Online Video ProductionOnline Video Production

Online Video Production is something I am very passionate about.  It is also something that this site doesnt rank for, that concerns me on two fronts: One, I should rank for phrases that I am passionate about and can offer value to organisations for and also I have been challenged to rank for phrases hard than the ones I have ranked for previously such as "Zappo the Clown" "Basane" and "Absolute Legend"

As an SEO strategist and video producer I thought it important to rank for a phrase like this and to make my details available for anyone who wants a video producer who fully understands the online space.  My work at industry leaders Stew Art Media allows me to pursue video production for the online space.

This challenge though is more about seeing if I can rank for this phrase "Online Video Production".  I do already rank number one in google.com.au for the phrase "video conversions melbourne" as a result of  an article I wrote on the adwords campaign of a company here in Melbourne.  I will keep the blog updated on this and other ranking attempts.  But his challenge maybe the hardest yet "Online Video Production"

When to compress videos

One of the questions I am often asked is about when and how to compress videos for encoding to DVD.  While the "how" will have to wait for another post, I intend to discuss the pros and cons of compressing files prior to authoring and during authoring.

Free Video Editing Software

TwitterI monitor Twitter for various trends, I like the fact that "the cloud" as it were has so many answers and also so many questions to solve.  One of the most common complaints I hear from people in regards to video editin is why is the software so expensive, how can I get free video editing software?

I am not about to go into the hows and whys of why software cost so much or the morality of using downloaded/pirated software.  I will say that I do use legit software but have had the privellege to have been given a significant amount of free software by manufacturers to test and learn for training or sales roles I have held.  Personally at home I use Adobe Premiere, switching recently after about 4  years of Avid Liquid in all its various guises.  Ialso use and recceomend the "Studio" suite by Pinnacle, its is a low cost easy to use editor, I saw it being sold for $AU200 recently but I am sure you can get it better than that.  I have though recently found a free MPG/video editor for windows users.

Interlaced Video an excellent explanation

Posted by camthecameraman in Video EditingVideo ClipVideo CameraMPGInterlacedInterlaceFlickeringFilesEncodingDVD Studio ProDVD problems

Interlaced VideoWhen I started this blog my intention was to come up with original content, I intend to do that but I also feel it is important to highlight great answers written by other bloggers.  I dont want this site to become a pointer to other sites rest assured I will continue to comment and write my own articles.  One of the most common issues I hear when it comes to editing, shooting and encoding (in fact a student here at TAFE just said "Why is this still picture flickering on the monitor)  comes back to interlacing issues.

Problems present as "shimmering" still pictures, jerky or jumpy moving shots to footage that "doesn't look right".  Usually it is caused by multiple software packages treating footage or stills differently or more correctly interpretting the interlaced image differently.  I wont keep writing about this as a far more intelligent and eloquent blogger than myself has written an excellent page of information with diagrams etc on this subject.  Check out http://www.100fps.com

Rendering issues and Disc Fails when creating large complex Adobe Encore DVD projects

Posted by camthecameraman in MPGDVD problemsDVDAdobe Encore CS3Adobe CS3Adobe

Hard DriveProblem/Issue:I have been doing some large complex projects in Adobe Encore lately and have found I can get some rendering errors.  My footage is imported as quicktime reference files, using an Avid HD CODEC.  The menus are quite deep and involve some multiple audio files.

I found that pre rendering the QT ref files to .m2v first could help but this goes against my normal authouring principles, but to get the job out I did what I had to do. Also I found that the longer the project extended over time, i.e. days back and forth, checking previews etc, that the problems became worse.  Sometimes I had to individually render each file.  Oh and also if you haven't updated to the later software update the renders you have completed may disappear too.

Solution: Create your menus and timelines test and use the interface then save them as templates. Start a new project, clean, use the templates and very quickly rebuild your DVD, remembering all the features etc you put in your first "draft". This wont take long the second time. Then burn. Result, DVD burns fine (hopefully).  Also try converting all your reference files to mpg first, seems to help especially with large HD files.
