SEO Case Study - Buzzbee HomesPosted by camthecameraman in strategy, SEO, Online, Marketing, Branding, Advertising |

As you would be aware I have reduced my hours at NMIT and taken up a full time position with StewArt Media dealing with SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). I have been explaining this to my relatives over this Christmas break as kinda like "yellow pages for the web age". People use search engines to find stuff even if they already have a bit of information about the company or product.
My wife and I are currently investigating building a home on a block of land we bought early this year. As such during the break we have looked at lots of builders websites. Today while listening to the radio we heard an advertisement for a company again, this company advertises a fair bit on this radio station and my wife listens to this station exclusively. The company is Buzzbee Homes.
As we are in the market for a new home this caught my ear, I remembered that I have heard them advertise before and in fact I have even heard their MD talking to the morning hosts on issues pertaining to building. They have invested in their radio campaign and this station heavily.
When I got home I forgot their website URL, no problem I thought as I would just Google it. Unfortunately I could not find their site even when looking for their company name "Buzzbee Homes". I was not deterred and was eventually able to find them via the BizMaroondah website that ranked highly in Google Australia.
This raises a few points in my mind, some which I will expand on in future blogs:
- An intensive radio advertising campaign didn't result in my wife and I thinking of this company first when we finally decided to build a home. The idea that "saturation" coverage will put a company at front of mind when a purchase decision is to be made didn't work in this case.
- People need to find you when they are investigating their purchase decision, usually on the web these days, and if your site ranks highly for a searched for phrase then any radio coverage may provide reinforcement to drive you to that site.
- If you are going to run a radio campaign make sure you can be found via search when people get out of their cars (where radio is the dominant media form). People may search for your company name first, make sure you can be found via your company name.
- Make sure you can be found for variations of your company name especially if it can be spelt a number ways. People may not recall the exact name but will remeber some details.
- The quality of your website can only be measured if it can be found. Buzzbee Homes were fortunate that they exist on a local government business directory as this then pointed to their website. I was committed to finding them, how many others may not have made that step?
- Submitting to local directories works, and is a great backup plan for your website.
