Free Video Editing SoftwarePosted by camthecameraman in Video Editing, Video Conversion, online video, MPG, miniDVD, Free Stuff |

I monitor Twitter for various trends, I like the fact that "the cloud" as it were has so many answers and also so many questions to solve. One of the most common complaints I hear from people in regards to video editin is why is the software so expensive, how can I get free video editing software?
I am not about to go into the hows and whys of why software cost so much or the morality of using downloaded/pirated software. I will say that I do use legit software but have had the privellege to have been given a significant amount of free software by manufacturers to test and learn for training or sales roles I have held. Personally at home I use Adobe Premiere, switching recently after about 4 years of Avid Liquid in all its various guises. Ialso use and recceomend the "Studio" suite by Pinnacle, its is a low cost easy to use editor, I saw it being sold for $AU200 recently but I am sure you can get it better than that. I have though recently found a free MPG/video editor for windows users.
I havent tested it completely but I can say the feature set looks good for basic editing, its called Video Edit Master V1.8 . It by no means replaces the paid for products I use but it is a handy tool and great value for money. Specifically it edits MPG files which is a boon to users on MiniDVD cameras and some HD AVCHD cameras. It also doesnt require to re-encode the entire video thus preserving quality.
I recently wrote and guide to recording and editing a video and this used the free video editor that comes with Windows, Windows Movie Maker. This program has got me out of a pickle on a few occassions. Such as when I have been stuck away from home and I need to edit something down a little or more commonly as a tool for transcoding files to DV-PAL then editing them on more traditional systems fixing audio sync and other compatibility issues along the way.
While not strictly an editor I also reccomend a free program called virtual dub. This can also transcode and has a huge array of options to modify your video files, handy one include de-interlacing and color correction tools. Be sure to search for the modified version that works with MPEG files.

Hi - I was in a similar situation with regard to lookig for free video software.
There are, actually, numerous free editing tools for video.
If you are on a PC there are the following:
1) Jahshaka
Jahshaka is a free multi-use offline editing tool. Although it is still fairly new on the market.
2) T@B ZS4
T2B ZS4 is a free video editing and compositing tool from Zwei-Stein. Its not for everyone, but it could be for you.
3) Wax
A free tool with powerful editing and compositing abilities.
4) Video Spin
Video Spin is the free video editing tool from Avid/Pinnacle.
5) Vivia
Vivia is a basic editing software which is currently being developed and is in Beta testing. If you are using Linux or Windows you might want to check this out
6) Avidemux
One of the more stable and complete free tools available.
7) Blender
Blender is a powerful, multi-use editing/compositing and modeling tool. It's one of the best on the market and it's free.
Movica
A tool to deal with MPG and flash video. It's simple, it's powerful and it's free!
Generally speaking, unless you are only doing very basic things you may need more than one tool to create your final vision. I would recommend something like Avidemux or even Blender (If your after something very powerful and free)
Information about these and more can be found on my web site: http://www.free-video-editing.com/fve
Hope this is useful.
